Jisoo for Harper's Bazaar Japan x Dior April 2022 Issue
18 March 2022 — Harper’s Bazaar Japan released an interview article and photos featuring Blackpink’s Jisoo as Dior’s fashion and beauty brand ambassador where she talks about the brand, her personal style as well as an update on what she’s been up to lately.
TL:DR Version:
Titled “Jisoo's Natural Beauty Shines in Dior's New Lipstick”, the Japanese article unfortunately doesn’t provide an English translation. I ended up trying to read the article by translating it through DeepL.com which I think gave a better translation (at least for me, their translations make more sense compared to when I use google translate). I’m not going to translate the full the article, but here are some parts that I found interesting:
(Also, a little bit of disclaimer, translation might not 100% accurate and some parts are rephrased to make the sentence less awkward. Interview excerpt & photos from Harper’s Bazaar Japan website.)
Q: You have been appointed as a Dior Fashion & Beauty Global Ambassador, how do you feel about it frankly?
I have always loved Dior in fashion and beauty respectively, so I think it is even more significant to be able to serve as an ambassador for both at the same time, not just one or the other. I was wearing Dior from head to toe, from fashion to makeup, so I was very enthusiastic going into the shoot.
Q: What do you find attractive about the Dior brand?
I think Dior is most attractive because it looks simple and elegant, yet charismatic at the same time. I like it because it fits well with my usual style, which is eye-catching without being flashy in design or style.
Q: Which of the four Dior Addict Lipstick couture cases would you like to choose from? What style do you want to match?
Denim case! Actually, I did a shoot for this lipstick last year, and even then I was surprised and amazed that they could make a case out of denim material.
Q: What are you into these days?
I have been studying languages lately. There is a YouTube content that I always have playing that teaches grammar and vocabulary for an hour. It’s in both English and Japanese. I used to study Japanese for a while and I felt like I forgot it because I never had a chance to use it, but when I watch the content, I think, “I still remember!” (laughs).
Q: How to relieve stress during the pandemic?
I’m stressed and suffocating, but I’m trying not to waste my time by learning and exercising, figuring that I should do whatever I can in this situation. As frustrating as this situation is, if I just slack off, I know that later when I look back on this time, I will regret it very much. It’s a difficult time, but I think if I feel I’ve learned something, it helps me to relieve stress.
Q: What do you see as the beauty of human beings?
I have always felt that beauty comes from within. Beauty is different depending on how you look at it, isn’t it? Unlike math, there is no right answer, and it is impossible to say what is right and what is wrong.
I think you have to be content to look at yourself as much as possible and find your inner beauty. If you keep looking at someone else and comparing yourself, you would feel down and tired. You have to admit to yourself that you are fine as long as you are fine. But if you have to ask yourself, ‘Is this okay?’, doubting and constantly comparing yourself to someone else is not good for your life. And of course, it is not good for your health.
Above all, we need to face ourselves and admit that we are so much better, that we have grown so much more than we were before.
Q: What is your favorite item you wore for this shoot?
White long dress (laughs). I don't usually have a chance to wear it. It's a dress I can only wear for a shoot like this, so it was fresh.
Q: What would you like to try or start this year?
I don’t know if I’ll be able to start this year, but something I’ve always wanted to learn is swimming. I want to go to the pool with the members and learn. I want to have fun and compete in swimming, but it’s too bad I can’t do it.
I can’t swim, so when I go on a tour or somewhere for fun, I always say, “Bye!” and watch the members off from the distance and mainly be the photographer for them.
There are so many nice swimming pools, aren’t there? I don’t know where I can learn to swim, but maybe someday I can try?
Harper’s Bazaar Japan also released a video on their YouTube channel on the same day.
